What's up at the park?

So what's up with all the new chain-link fencing going up around the Austin Street playground? Not only is it going up around the outside perimeter, but it's dividing the playground area from the bench area. It's really going to change the atmosphere of the playground, and I'm not certain it's for the better. If it's for some sort of safety reason I suppose I'd understand, but I'd like to know what it is. I hope it's not just to protect their pathetic plantings from being trampled by the kids. That would be pathetic. If I see someone to ask this afternoon, I'll try to get the scoop.
